Preparing a Notice to Creditors

A Notice to Creditors should be prepared as official notification to any creditors or debtors that the deceased estate is being finalised.  If there are any unpaid creditors who haven’t made their presence known they will lose their right to payment if they haven’t given notice of their debt within the times specified in the published notice.

The notice is published online (or in a local newspaper) by the executor or administrator following receipt of a grant of probate or letters of administration.

Publishing the notice does not forgive or remove any debt but will stop the executor or administrator from being personally liable for the debt if any creditor fails to come forward.
